Nearly six million Brits are planning to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a party in their own homes, new research from Santander has revealed. The bank found that a grand total of around £424 million is expected to be spent on food, drink, decorations and memorabilia for the celebrations.
However, property buyers were warned to make sure they have adequate cover to protect themselves against any mishaps during their parties. Damage to household items was caused during six per cent of house parties last year, according to Santander, while five per cent of hosts suffered a theft. Seven per cent of parties also ended with carpet stains.
“The Queen’s Jubilee weekend is a great opportunity to throw a celebration with your neighbours, family and friends,” said Colin Greenhill, director of Santander Insurance. “It’s good to see that so many people are planning some form of celebration; however given the prevalence of accidental damage and theft during party celebrations, we are urging people to review their policy cover and make sure they are adequately covered. ”
